Turnkey Classified Script

Products 6 min read

A turnkey classified script is a license for a listings engine installed on your hosting. It is not SaaS on someone else's subdomain and not a pile of WordPress plugins. After payment, you usually receive an archive, a key or domain license, and update access. Then comes installation in the root, MySQL, the admin area, and categories.

I separate "classified" from "store" strictly: there are no SKUs and cart as the main scenario. There is an author, listing, moderation, card lifetime, and sometimes VIP. If the client needs product payment and delivery, that is an online store, a different path.

What should be included

  • An installer or clear install flow with PHP/MySQL checks.
  • Admin area: categories, users, moderation queue, mail and payment settings.
  • Frontend: feed, category, search, card, author account.
  • Photo upload with previews; without it the marketplace is dead.
  • Documentation for folder permissions and cron, such as VIP expiration and old-listing cleanup.

If the demo has no moderation queue, I do not choose that script for public registration. Spam arrives faster than honest listings. Pre-purchase checks are covered in the purchase checklist.

Turnkey: what the integrator does and what remains yours

"Turnkey" means different things for different sellers. In a good package, after installation on your domain these already work:

  1. SSL and basic https redirects.
  2. Initial category tree for the niche, such as city board, cars, or real estate.
  3. Enabled pre-moderation.
  4. Several demo listings with photos for screenshots.
  5. Email for "listing approved / rejected" or at least status in the account.

Your side still owns content, advertising, moderators, and legal texts such as terms and personal data policy. The script does not replace an editor and will not bring sellers by itself.

License. Check the number of domains, whether a test *.loc install is allowed, and whether migration help is included. Sometimes the license is for one production domain, so agree on staging in advance.

Admin flow in the first week

After the installer finishes, I do not open registration immediately. The order is:

  • Reduce categories to those you can actually fill in a month.
  • Fill the city directory, otherwise the city filter is useless.
  • Test upload from a phone; camera JPEGs are often heavier than the limit.
  • Create a moderator role without billing and system-file access.
  • Run listing submission, queue, approval, and appearance in the feed.

I enable VIP packages and paid placement only when moderation already works consistently. Otherwise paid services pile up as support tickets. See VIP and paid placement.

Why a PHP classified beats a "WP theme"

I have seen dozens of WordPress themes with "classified board" functionality. Six months later the client has a zoo of plugins, update conflicts, and holes in the submission form. A separate PHP script is easier to back up as a whole: files plus MySQL dump. White label is handled by logo and color changes, without third-party copyright in the footer. The downside is that you monitor PHP versions and patches yourself; the upside is that data does not live in someone else's cloud plan.

Engine overview: classified board script. First-screen launch practice: board manual. If you position the product as "your own Avito", read Avito-like script honestly: it is about UX and categories, not cloning a brand.

Niche and region matter more than features

A classified "for all of Russia from zero" almost always dies. Narrow platforms survive: one city, one vertical such as special equipment, rentals, or jobs. A niche makes it easier to recruit moderators and agree with first authors on content. Then the homepage shows 30-50 real cards with good photos, not emptiness.

Technically the script is the same; category sets, required fields such as floor, mileage, or rate, and moderation strictness differ. Do not chase a hundred modules in the price list; chase the working cycle "submitted, checked, shown, promoted".

When classified is not your product

  • If you need a catalog with stock and payment, choose a store.
  • If you need orders and contractor responses, that is a marketplace, not a board.
  • If you only need a landing page with a "leave a request" form, a classified is excessive.

If the niche and model are clear, a turnkey classified script saves months of development: you buy a ready path and invest in content and traffic. Buying without a moderation and city plan quickly drains the budget on an empty domain.

Questions I ask before paying

The list is short, but I do not pay without answers:

  • PHP and MySQL versions used for the latest release.
  • Whether a moderation queue and roles without payment-key access exist out of the box.
  • How updates are delivered and what happens to custom layout after an update.
  • Whether a copy can be installed on a test domain without a second license.
  • Who helps if the installer fails while writing config: ticket, chat, or only "read the readme".

On demo I ask to create a listing as a test user, reject it, approve it again, and attach VIP. If the seller says "it is inconvenient to show admin now", that is a stop for me. Homepage screenshots prove nothing.

Migration and backup after launch

A classified on your own hosting lives for years. Plan from day one: MySQL dump plus upload/ archive, stored outside the same VDS. Copy before PHP changes. Before moving to a new server, use the migration checklist in this manual. The license may be tied to the domain; before changing the domain, write to support in advance, not after production has moved and the key has turned red.

Also: a classified does not replace legal pages. Terms, personal data policy, and publication rules are your footer texts. The script provides the consent form; wording comes from the client or their lawyer. I only connect checkboxes and links so submission cannot enter the queue without consent.

In practice, the first week after buying a classified is not about polish. It is cities, categories, rejection templates, upload checks from two phones, and a test user without admin rights. When these are closed, a turnkey classified script starts working like a marketplace. If not, it remains a demo on your domain that you already paid for.
