Telegram Bot for a Classifieds Board

Products 6 min read

A Telegram bot for a classifieds board is a traffic and operations channel without a mobile app. A newly approved listing goes to the city channel, the moderator gets a task in private or group chat, and the author gets "approved/rejected" status. For regional marketplaces, the channel often brings repeat visits better than relying on Google alone.

Product base: classifieds marketplace, launch: board.

Scenarios people actually use

  • New-lot channel: photo, price, city, link to card.
  • Moderator alerts: "N in queue" or each new item for review.
  • Author status: if Telegram is linked in profile.
  • Complaints: a short ping with an admin link.
  • Digest: daily top fresh items if the flow is large and the channel should not be spammed.

Do not build a "second Avito inside the bot" with posting through chat at launch. Start with feed and alerts. Bot posting is stage two, after the normal site is stable.

What to configure in the board admin panel

  1. Bot token and channel/group id.
  2. Publication condition: only after moderation, mandatory.
  3. Message template: title, price, city, one photo, URL.
  4. Category/city filter so the city channel does not receive other-city lots.
  5. Anti-flood: no more than X messages per minute during mass approval.
Moderation. Publishing to Telegram before approval is a fast way to advertise spam. Only approved status. See queue and VIP.

Technical details that trip people up

  • The bot must be a channel admin with permission to post.
  • Webhook or long polling: on shared hosting, cron processing an event queue is often simpler.
  • Photos: either file_id after first upload or a preview URL from your https site; without https, Telegram may not fetch the image.
  • Log API errors: channel changed, bot kicked, token revoked.
  • Idempotency: repeated cron must not send the same listing five times.

The card on the site remains primary. The post uses a UTM link to measure traffic. Clean URLs and city: city filter; post preview: photos.

Moderator operations

If there are several moderators, alerts are better sent to a service group than to one person's private chat. The group shows who took a task. Author notifications should be opt-in through an account checkbox; otherwise spam complaints follow.

Rejection templates can be short: "Rejected: add a product photo". Long explanations do not belong in the messenger; details stay in the site account.

Channel as a showcase near VIP

VIP on the site and a channel post are different things. Sometimes "publication in Telegram" is sold as a separate service. Then:

  • ordinary lots enter the channel selectively or in digests;
  • paid lots get a separate post right after service payment;
  • the post is marked as promotion if your rules require it.

Package monetization: paid placement. Do not promise "top of channel forever"; promise duration and post fact.

Minimum test before opening to users

  1. Create listing, approve it, get exactly one channel post.
  2. Reject another listing, nothing goes to the channel.
  3. Set an invalid token, see an error in the log while the site stays alive.
  4. Check the link from a phone.

Classifieds overview: board script, buying checklist: checklist. A Telegram bot does not replace moderation and categories; it amplifies a working marketplace. Add approved-post publishing and queue alerts, and a regional board gets a familiar channel people revisit to see what appeared today.

A post format worth sharing

Keep it short: first line title and price, second line city and category, third line link. One photo, the best one. I do not put long descriptions into the channel; interested users open the card. City hashtags make sense if you have several channels or real hashtag search usage inside Telegram; otherwise they are noise. A URL button, if supported, goes directly to the card with UTM utm_source=telegram.

  • Do not post rejected items or drafts.
  • Do not post every price update; only new approval or paid "post in channel" service.
  • For mass import of old lots, use a digest, not a hundred messages per minute.

Token and access security

The bot token is a key to the channel. Store it in config outside webroot or in env, not in public JS. Only the owner role should change the token in admin. When a contractor leaves, regenerate the token. Do not make the moderator group public through an open invite link. If the bot accepts commands such as /queue, authorize by Telegram user id whitelist; otherwise anyone who learns the bot name can pull statistics.

Once a quarter, check that posts still go through: a test listing on staging or hidden category is enough. A silent channel usually means the bot was kicked or preview SSL expired, not necessarily that there are no listings. Monitoring is simple: if there are queued events but zero post attempts for 24 hours, alert the admin.

Channel and site share one policy

If a card is removed from the site for a violation, the channel post also needs deletion or a reply saying "removed". Otherwise Telegram becomes a showcase of forbidden content. The moderator needs a simple path: remove in admin, then automatic API deletion or a task to clean the channel. Without this link, board and channel live separate lives and hurt each other.

A Telegram bot for classifieds strengthens existing moderation and categories. Configure approved posts, queue alerts, tidy format, and token storage. Then a regional marketplace gains the habit of "checking today's new items", and some traffic stops depending only on search and paid clicks.

Several cities, several channels

For a region, cities sometimes get their own channels or at least threads/hubs. In bot settings, the city_id filter is mandatory: mixing one city with a neighboring district annoys local readers. If there is one channel, put the city prominently in the first line. The bot then does not become a noisy feed from everywhere.

Once a month, review rights: who is channel admin, who is in the moderator group, and whether the token is still valid. Changing contractors without regenerating the token is a hole. The site plus channel follows the same moderation rules as the VIP showcase: approve first, publish second, and clean up in Telegram when removed.
